Two independent directors
Draft. This page was assembled from the incorporation pack and the governance section of the site. Replace it with the full director advert from the launch kit before you publish the vacancy.
Counted Health CIC is recruiting two independent directors, through an open public advert, before it applies for its first grant.
Why we are advertising
Counted Health CIC was incorporated in August 2026 with a single director. That is a normal way to start and a poor way to continue. Two independent directors are being recruited now, building towards a board where most directors come from the communities Counted Health CIC serves, within eighteen months.
Independent directors also do a specific job here. All commercial relationships, including any involving organisations connected to the founder, are conducted on arm's-length written terms approved by the independent directors. That approval is the safeguard, and it does not work unless the people giving it are genuinely independent.
Who we are looking for
We are not looking for people who already sit on several boards. We are looking for people who know something we need to know, and who will say so in the room.
- People from the communities Counted Health CIC serves: ethnic minority communities, people on low incomes, and disabled people.
- People who have taken part in health research, or who have decided not to and can say why.
- Community organisers, faith and community leaders, and people who run the venues our sessions happen in.
- People with finance, governance, safeguarding or fundraising experience who want it to count for something.
- First-time directors. We expect to train, and induction is part of the role, not a favour.
You do not need a science background. You do not need previous board experience. You must be able to be a company director under UK law, and you must not be connected to the founder or to any organisation Counted Health CIC contracts with.
What the role involves
- Four board meetings a year, held at times that work around work and caring responsibilities, online or in East London.
- An initial term of three years.
- Approving arm's-length terms for any commercial relationship, including those connected to the founder.
- Holding the organisation to its two rules: we never recruit for any study, and we never collect or hold research data.
The role is unpaid, which is normal for a CIC of this size. Expenses are paid from day one, including travel, care costs and anything else that would otherwise make it impossible to attend. If cost is the thing standing in your way, tell us and we will sort it out.
How to apply
There is no application form. Email hello@countedhealth.org with a few paragraphs, or a voice note if you would rather talk than write, telling us who you are and why this matters to you. We will reply to everyone.
If you would like an informal conversation before applying, ask for one. That is not a disadvantage in the process.
