Plain language
We write everything at a reading age of around nine to eleven. Short sentences. Everyday words. If anything on this site is hard to understand, that is our failure, not yours, and we want to know: hello@countedhealth.org.
Languages
Our community guides are being produced in Bengali, Urdu, Arabic, Hindi, Gujarati, Punjabi and Somali as well as English. Each language is published here only once a native speaker has read it and signed it off, so you will see a language in the switcher at the top of the page when it is genuinely ready, and not before. If you need something from this site in another language or format, ask us and we will do our best.
Every language is set in a typeface that actually contains its letters, at a size and line spacing chosen for that script rather than borrowed from English. Urdu, for example, is set larger and more loosely spaced than the English, because Nastaliq is not readable at the size English is comfortable at.
How the site is built
Clear headings in a logical order. Text that resizes in your browser, plus a text size control at the top of every page if you would rather not change your browser settings. Colours that meet contrast standards. Images with text descriptions. Captions on any video. Forms kept short, with clear labels. The site works with keyboard navigation and screen readers, and everything important is on the page itself, never locked inside a download.
We aim to meet WCAG 2.2 level AA across the site, and our text and background colour pairings are chosen at level AAA (a contrast ratio of 7:1 or better). If you find something that falls short, tell us.
On a phone, on a budget
Most people will visit this site on a phone. It is built to load fast and work on small screens and limited data. There is no tracking, no advertising, and no third-party code, so nothing loads except the page you asked for. Each page downloads only the typeface its own language needs.
